From The Editor

What’s important around the home and garden? Pruning and shaping a valued plant, maintaining fertile soil, water retic maintenance, propagating new plants from small pieces of another plant, and recycling green waste into compost.

There’s obviously a lot more but those I think are the important bits.

The world changed in 2020. It’s never going back to the way it was, and we need to adapt. In my mind the best way forward is to own a handful of useful skills and trade them with other people.

I moved three hours away to a country town, and went straight to unskilled farm work. First an apple orchard and then a farm-sized commercial tree nursery. I learned a lot in two years. The more experienced guys were always happy to share what they knew, and it inspired me enough to enroll in TAFE and do Horticulture. I’ve got the skills and experience now to provide a specialised garden service.

If I can do something new then almost anyone can, it depends entirely on desire.
